My grandfather, now happily retired, has always been impeccably dressed. A businessman in Cyprus and the UK from the 1970s through to the early 2000s, he built an impressive collection of luxury neckties along the way. In a moment of infinite wisdom, and perhaps after spotting the manic glint in my eye, he passed them on to me. He has now embraced a more relaxed (but still impeccable) style.

I considered turning his collection into a quilt, but i could not bring myself to cut into so many old pieces. Ultimately I decided that the best way to honour it was to let the ties serve their original purpose. I’ve been working in the film and television industry in London since 2020, which gave me the idea to create a.mi.ma. Today, the entire collection is available as character-driven pieces for film and television productions. I’m very grateful to have the background and opportunity to start this small hire house, and hope other costume professionals will enjoy this collection as much as I do.
